....AND THE WINNER IS…
Sterling Reflection
Whitewater pioneer and seakayak designer Reg Lake had expert paddlers in mind when he shaped the stern of this surf specific sea kayak...... The result is the most innovative boat to come out in a decade, not only can it drop into waves backward, but it’s also the lightest sea kayak we’ve ever tested....The kicker here is that it also tours amazingly well. Lake included roomy hatches ... increased control by moving the dropdown skeg ..... a recessed back deck makes for easier rolling......
Thank you, Outside Magazine |

| Radical by design. The result of years of hard work, building prototypes, re-designing and testing. We reached our goal: a strong, light touring kayak that handles well in rough water, whether loaded for camping or just out for a day-trip. |

Caution:No one should tackle these extreme conditions in their Illusion, but we wanted to share this email from Warren to let you see the Illusion and one of the top expert paddlers in their element.
By Chance another one of our customers was on the Deception Pass Bridge and took these pictures!!!

hey sterling / yesterday I put in at cornet bay and was in the pass right at max ebb of 6.5 at 10:10 am. the west wind was recorded at the navel station at 52 knots. with the funnel effect of the pass I'm thinking it was 60 plus knots in the pass. I was talking to a boat captain today on the phone, he was on the bridge yesterday watching me in the pass, he said the wind was over 60 knots going through the pass. I surfed on the standing waves in the pass for four hours. your kayak surfed in those conditions, it turned into the wind, away from the wind, rolled with big dumping foam piles crashing on top of it. the performance of your kayak in those extreme conditions was excellent.

The Hurricane Riders: October Session---Incredible Surf---Incredible Kayaking
Rowan Gloag THR puts our Graphite Grand Illusion to the test........

I was lucky enough to use Sterling's Carbon Graphite Grand Illusion. A boat that is designed for expedition paddling shouldn't be that maneuverable, right? No. I absolutely loved this boat. Being able to change direction on the waves with a stern rudder and edge control gave me huge confidence in the surf. With ample rocker and buoyancy at the stern I was able to continue to work on back surfing, linking edge control with bow pries, leading to my longest and most controlled back surfs ever. Thank you Sterling. I will post a full boat review after I test it on a camp trip.
